Reading

I listen to music on Spotify,
I listen to overplayed tunes, I listen to them on repeat, saying the words... ‘Easy Lover’ and wondering where love has gone...

I start reading ‘The Hungry Ghosts’ by Shyam Selvadurai,
And I’m enchanted but not at all flabbergasted, because it hooks me from the first page.

I sit and think about what I last did, and realise it was eat my food and watch some YouTube.

How strange a world without social media, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat or Twitter.

I’ve been disconnected, and feel so contented with life. Sometimes I think it's a dream, or is it real? Oh yes, it's real alright.

What might seem strange to you is
How old-fashioned I may be, for I don’t even watch TV.

I sit and read and read, and breathe in between and sigh and laugh and pretend like I know all the parts to a play I once read, ‘The retrieved reformation’ by O Henry.

I think of writing, and here I am.
It's so exciting. I hope you know my days aren’t always illuminating.

I have taken ill with some pills, so please have sympathy as I write what I’m enjoying today.

If you think boredom hasn’t hit me yet, you may be completely wrong. It did, but indeed I chose to read.
